Here's what you need to know about Apple's big iOS 16 update
Apple today unveiled iOS 16. The next major update for the iPhone will be released to the public in September 2022.
“iOS 16 is a big release with updates that will change the way you experience iPhone,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We have reimagined how the Lock Screen looks and works with exciting new features that make it more personal and helpful".
iOS 16 brings an all-new lock screen. With a new multilayered effect, the subjects of photos will be artfully set in front of the time on the Lock Screen, creating a sense of depth. Users will also be able to change the look of the date and time with expressive type styles and color choices. It will also be possible to add special widgets in order to show information about things that are happening in real time, such as a sports game, workout, ride-share, or food delivery order.
Live Text expands to video in iOS 16. Users will be able to pause a video on any frame and interact with text. Live Text also adds the ability for users to quickly convert currency, translate text, and more.
The “Focus” tools that were introduced with iOS 15 last year become more powerful and easier to set up. Now it also connects to the Lock Screen. With Focus filters, apps like Calendar, Mail, Messages, and Safari can display only the content that is relevant to a user’s Focus, helping them to find better balance.
The Messages application is also enriched with new features. It will be possible to edit or recall recently sent messages, recover recently deleted messages, and mark conversations as unread.
iOS 16 also introduces new features for Siri, CarPlay, Maps, iCloud Shared Photo Library, Home, Fitness, Health and Safari...
