Elon Musk announced via Twitter a number of new features that will start being implemented on the microblogging platform as early as next week.
The biggest change will arrive in early February and will allow users to post long form tweets. The character limit for tweets will increase from 280 to 4,000 characters! Longer tweets will appear in-stream at the regular tweet length, with a ‘Show more’ indicator at the end of the first 280 characters. Users will then be able to expand the tweet in order to read more, with all the characters displayed in a longer tweet panel.
Next week, a new bookmark button will appear in the top right of the tweet detail display, making it easier to quickly tag and save a tweet for later reading.
Starting this week, an easy swipe right/left to move between recommended vs followed tweets will be implemented to facilitate user navigation. "This is the first part of a much larger UI overhaul", wrote Twitter's new CEO.
