We will soon be able to hide our online status.
The new option was spotted by WabetaInfo in a version of the app for iOS that is not yet available for beta testers. It is similar to the one that allows us to browse the web in private mode without leaving traces in the history. The feature is not new, as it is already implemented on Messenger and Instagram.
According to a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, it will be possible to configure who can see when we are online right within our last seen settings thanks to two new options: “Everyone” and “Same as Last Seen”. If we choose “My contacts” for “Last Seen” and “Same as Last Seen” for “online”, non-contacts won’t be able to see when we are online.
There is no information available on whether this feature would see the light of the day, let alone its release date
