TikTok could be readying to compete with Apple Music, Amazon Music and Spotify in the near future.
TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has filed a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for a new music streaming service.
As Business Insider reports, the request is for an application called TikTok Music. It could be used on a computer or a smartphone and "would allow users to live stream audio and video as well as the ability to edit and upload photographs as the cover of playlists and comment on music, songs, and albums.”
Today, TikTok is a music discovery engine. Many songs have gone viral thanks to this platform.
With its 800 million active users worldwide, TikTok could shake up the world of music streaming. Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Tidal, and Spotify would have serious new competition.
