TikTok officially announced the launch of a new program called Live Subscription.
The beta testing started yesterday. Only a select group of TikTokers can participate. The feature will be available worldwide in the coming months.
In order to participate, creators must have at least 1,000 followers and be 18 years old or older.
This new program will allow creators to generate recurring revenue via payments from their top fans. In return, fans will get exclusive perks, such as custom emotes (like fancy emojis that are “custom-designed by the creators”), subscriber badges, and access to subscriber-only chat.
TikTok takes inspiration from Twitch, which offers a similar program for creator streams on its platform. The price of TikTok Live Subscriptions will be “comparable” to Twitch packages (from $4.99 a month to $24.99 a month).
"LIVE Subscription gives creators the opportunity to increase their earnings while continuing to grow their community and also provides engaged communities an opportunity to thank their favorite creators on a regular basis", TikTok wrote in a statement.
