Elon Musk kept his promise. Twitter's algorithm was uploaded to GitHub, becoming publicly available.
Twitter's recommendation algorithm regulates the selection of tweets that appear in users’ timelines.
Its goal? Optimize positive engagement. The main factors that determine whether or not a tweet will appear in the feed are the number of likes, retweets and replies. For example, a "like" makes a tweet 30 times more likely to be displayed among the recommendations. A "retweet" 20 times more.
Subscribers to Twitter Blue (Twitter's new premium service) see their tweets gain twice the chances of appearing in the social network's feed.
What can undermine the visibility of a tweet? The algorithm penalizes users who follow many people, but do not have many Followers. Tweets have “negative feedback” if they’re from users who’ve been blocked or muted. Adding an external link can be considered spam. Disinformation is also heavily sanctioned. Pay attention to spelling and typos...
The hashtags? They don't do much...
