According to Mark Gurman, Apple has settled on a name for the operating system that will power the product. It will not be called realityOS, as many rumors had predicted, but xrOS.
"XR" is meant to stand for extended reality, which pertains to both augmented and virtual reality.
A shell corporation named Deep Dive LLC has already filed a trademark for the brand "xrOS" in the US and in other countries. Apple often uses shell companies to try to secretly register for trademarks for upcoming products. In its application, Deep Dive wrote that it's applying for a trademark for "head-mounted displays" and devices that provide "virtual reality and augmented reality experiences".
