Can your Device run Apple Intelligence?
One of the main new features of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 (expected in October) is Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that combines the power of generative models with personal context to deliver intelligence that’s incredibly useful and relevant.
Apple Intelligence leverages the computing power of Apple M1, M2, M3, M4, and A17Pro processors. Here is the full list of compatible devices:
- iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPad Pro M4, iPad Pro M2, iPad Pro M1, iPad Air M2, iPad Air M1
- MacBook Air M3, MacBook Air M2, MacBook Air M1, MacBook Pro M3, MacBook Pro M2, MacBook Pro M1, iMac M3, iMac M1, Mac mini M1, Mac mini M2, Mac Studio M1, Mac Studio M2, and Mac Pro M2
The upcoming iPad mini 7, as well as iPhone SE 4, are also expected to be compatible.
The rollout of Apple Intelligence will be gradual. First in October in the United States and by the end of the year in the rest of the world (in English), except for European Union countries, as Apple has expressed concerns about the effects of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Next year, more languages will be available (Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish). To try Apple Intelligence in Europe, you will need a Mac M1 (or later), by updating the operating system.
Apple Intelligence will require specific storage space: 4 GB on iPhone (Apple has not provided details for iPads and Macs).
