AVATARS – VIDEO CALLS

In 2017, WhatsApp released its own emoji set on WhatsApp beta for Android, and it seems it’s not the only thing the company wants to create a replacement for. In fact, WhatsApp is planning to introduce the ability to let people use an avatar during video calls for a long time: it seems that the company is internally working on its own Memoji/Bitmoji alternate set since March, and we can finally show something about today!

As you can see in this screenshot, there will be a new option within the video call screen that lets us immediately switch to our avatar when a future update drops. If we try to tap “Switch to avatar”, nothing happens: this is because the feature is still under development, so we should not expect this option to be usable on video calls anytime soon.
But it is not all: we can already announce that WhatsApp will also let users send avatars as stickers right within their chats and groups! In fact, we will be able to set up our own avatar by launching the “Avatar Editor”, a proper section where we can customize the avatar: when it is configured, we will finally be able to send avatar stickers.
In addition, this is not limited to WhatsApp beta for Android: WhatsApp is also planning to offer Avatars to iOS users in a future update.
Unfortunately, a release date is unknown because the feature is under development, but we will immediately let you know when we have further details about Avatars.
